Custom Rack Mounting And Containers For Tech Businesses

Do you need a better way to mount your devices? Is slapping strips of Velcro on a metal surface and calling it a day not cutting it? When you have a few devices that don't fit the standard server rack or device cabinet mold, you need to consider a more custom, yet still professional and secure option. Here are a few problems with the more temporary, makeshift methods of making tech devices fit, along with ways that a sheet metal fabrication team can help:

Quick Fixes Are Expensive Hazards

Many devices feature awkward designs that can't be easily stored inside the standard server rack. Despite server racks being movable to the point of accommodating larger and small devices, the fit is limited to square devices or shelves to mount devices.

Unfortunately, placing a device on a shelf or another device is a risky choice that should only be considered temporary. If the device isn't bolted down or held in a more secure container, anyone who trips over a cable or otherwise snags against the device or its connections can rip the device to the floor.

Drilling into device cases isn't a good idea, either. It's better security than Velcro, tape, or nothing at all, but most devices aren't designed to be drilled and attached to a rack. The same snag or pull can tear the device casing apart completely.

Custom Designs From Fabrication Teams

Instead of forcing a fit, a sheet metal fabrication professional can help you design containers and custom racks to store your devices.

For a one-size-fits-all approach, the fabrication team can make multiple containers or cages that can fit into a standard rack. Your devices are placed inside these containers and latched, allowing you to access the ports, switches, and indicators as needed.

These containers can be bolted into standard server racks, meaning that you don't need to change your existing server rack equipment unless your devices are bigger than the existing racks. If your devices are too big or if you don't have existing racks yet, a sheet metal fabrication team can design new racks to specific device dimensions.

A custom design that addresses all of your existing devices means a more efficient, easily managed data center, but keep in mind that you will need to evaluate newer devices if they're drastically different from what you already have.
